In one subject out of three who live up to the age of 80 years

Nineteen families with the main mutation (G2019S) of the LRRK2 gene (also called PARK8) in their genetic makeup were studied to assess the “penetrance” of the mutation i.e. how often it results in signs and symptoms. The frequency of parkinsonian symptoms was 15% at 60 years of age, 21% at 70 and 32% at 80.
