The considerable improvement in the quality of life of patients with
Parkinson's disease that has taken place in the last few years is
clearly due to the knowledge about the disease acquired by numerous
research groups operating throughout the world.
New drugs, new diagnostic procedures, new scientific data in the field
of molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics of Parkinson's disease
have seen the light in recent years and have paved the way for further
promising developments in the understanding of the causes of the
disease.
It is well known that research is very expensive and that public
investments in this field are very low: The individual patients, their
families and all persons who care about this disease should therefore
make a personal commitment to tangibly support scientific research that
could find a definitive cure for the disease.
Supporting research means to awaken public opinion to the need for funds. The Grigioni Foundation organizes and sponsors several campaigns with this objective every year. Proof of the commitment of the Grigioni Foundation in this field is the 1,000 hero campaign and the co-operation with the Telethon Foundation within the "DNA Bank" project. Furthermore, the Grigioni Foundation for Parkinson's disease publishes a quarterly magazine, ParkinsoNews, directed by Dr Jennifer Susan Hartwig and Prof. Gianni Pezzoli, President of the Foundation.
