The Parkinson Institute (Director: Prof Gianni Pezzoli), in co-operation with Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento Hospital and Niguarda Cà Granda Hospital and its Service of Anatomic Pathology (Director: Prof Marcello Gambacorta) and the Grigioni Foundation for Parkinson’s disease designed and opened the Bank of Nervous Tissue BTN in the month of March 2007.

The costs for administrative and technical staff, including medical pathologists, as well as those for the performance of the pathological examinations (some investigations require expensive reagents) are supported by the two hospitals.  The costs of any additional investigations carried out only for research purposes are supported by the Grigioni Foundation, which expects to cover long-term costs with donations from supporters who believe in the value of BTN
