Cells implanted into rats survived and were effective

In 2004 positive results with retinal cell implants were reported in 6 patients with Parkinson’s disease.This surgical treatment was studied further in an animal model of Parkinson's disease.

The new data confirm that retinal cells survive after implantation into the striatum without immunosuppressive therapy and that they are effective in controlling symptoms
